I have some great news to share with you! Now in its sixth year of publication, the Journal of ISAKOS (JISAKOS) has achieved indexing in MEDLINE/PubMed, making the journal’s content more available than ever before.

MEDLINE/PubMed indexing is important to the journal for several reasons. PubMed is the most widely used medical literature database in the world, and having JISAKOS included means that its articles and clinical content will now be available to anyone in the world searching PubMed. This is beneficial for the profession and the public since JISAKOS exists to provide high-quality educational and expert-vetted content in the orthopaedic sports medicine field. It is also beneficial for authors as their published articles will now be more widely available to be read and cited.

A next step is to get JISAKOS eligible for inclusion into the Science Citation Index in order to receive an impact factor, which of course is also beneficial for authors and researchers.

Although we are already indexed in other sources—CINAHL, Embase and Scopus, for example—physicians and others who are interested in JISAKOS’ content might be less familiar with these indices. JISAKOS content from 2021 is already available in MEDLINE/PubMed at the time of this writing, and all future articles and issues will be indexed and available shortly after publication.

JISAKOS’ acceptance is a testament to the journal’s evolving and continually improving high level of quality research, techniques, cases and reviews. We are especially pleased that—in their review— the Literature Selection Technical Review Committee noted our creative and novel type of articles, such as the Classic. But they also mention our three different types of reviews focusing on clinical practice.

Having the journal in PubMed expands the potential clinical impact of the journal’s content. This will help ISAKOS fulfil its mission to provide high-quality education in the field and to be a leading resource for orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists around the world. Having its flagship journal in PubMed will also strengthen ISAKOS by building more awareness of the society as well as ISAKOS’ other educational offerings. I expect it to result in more and higher-quality abstract submissions to the ISAKOS Congress, as congress abstracts are made available in PubMed as well.

All of us who have been associated with the journal should be proud of the progress that acceptance for MEDLINE/PubMed indexing implies. Many have worked hard all these years to make it work, including the BMJ team, the members of our editorial board, managing editor Leendert Blankevoort, our social media and statistical editors, the ISAKOS office and our consultant Stephen Welch, but especially the reviewers and the authors who believed in us. A big thank you also to the ISAKOS Board of Directors and JISAKOS Board of Trustees who have supported us all the way.

The path to indexing was long but fulfilling. I am very proud to have been with JISAKOS every step of the way.

Congratulations to all of us!
